Press-O-Film, commonly known as replica tape, is a widely trusted method for measuring the surface profile of blast-cleaned steel. Manufactured by Testex, it consists of a layer of crushable plastic microfoam affixed to a compressible polyester backing of uniform thickness.

To use it, the tape is pressed onto a surface and rubbed with a tool to create an exact inverse replica of the peaks and valleys. The peak-to-valley height is then measured using a micrometer thickness gauge. Compliant with ASTM D4417, it provides a permanent, physical record of the surface roughness to ensure optimal coating adhesion.
